Last weekend I celebrated my 30th birthday (the actual date was Tuesday the 17th). It was glorious. My nearest and dearest from all over the United States made their way to the island for 48 hours of great company, delicious cocktails and food, and a 90s house party hosted at my parents house (because parties thrown at our parents' houses are always the best). Saturday night my gaggle of great friends (a total of 18) took over the patio at the Langeudoc Bistro with me for a fabulous early dinner, then made our way to my parent's house in Surfside for a glorious party with some additional company.
A party of 18 merits place cards. I wanted each table to have a mixture of old friends and new friends, along with my sisters, brother, and mother (who flew out from LA and slept at my place due to the massive gathering at her home, thanks mom!). I wrote each name on a white paper tag with fancy letters. I tried to pair letter style with personality, and even included a small thank you note. I set each place card next to a small wind-up toy, and matched the toy to the person too. Not only are they a colorful personal favorite (I have a small collection of them on my office desk), but they also provided a great icebreaker for the start of the evening.
My sister, Maybeth, made a delicious dessert buffet for the after dinner festivities. She baked lemon squares, a chocolate Guinness cake, a traditional yellow cake with chocolate frosting, and a scrumptious apple cake. All was marvelous. Between the sweet treats and the cocktails we were all on a sugar high that fueled our dance moves until the early hours of the morning. Some even went down to the beach for a night swim (this birthday girl kept her feet out of the water and on the dance floor).
It was a perfect night. I'm still glowing from great moments and memories. I started thirty with a heart full of love and gratitude. It can only get better from here.
