Island Traditions: Annual Daffodil Festival

The Trojans
During the last weekend of April the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce holds their Daffodil Festival: a weekend full of events celebrating spring awakening on the island. This annual tradition began in the 1970s, and includes an antique car parade from Main Street in town to Main Street in 'Sconset, where a community tailgate picnic celebrates the arrival of spring on the island.

I've had the pleasure of being in the parade the past few years. My crew and I are all about the theme. This year, we converted the 1966 VW Microvan into a Trojan Horse. Our picnic in 'Sconset was a feast in honor of Dionysus, the god of wine.
