Haute Holiday: Back-off From Black & Let Yourself Shine

1.Adrianna Papell Dress; 2. Badgley Mischka Shoe; 3. Miguel Ases Earring; 4. Fresh Sugar Rose; 5. Kotur Clutch

Dressing for holiday parties can be daunting. It was not until my early 20s that I began to enjoy holiday fashion (this was around the time that I started to discover beautiful clothing for women like me: large hips, broad shoulders, ample bosom), said "later" to my seasonal look of black dresses, black tights, and black mary-jane flats (the traditional fat-girl party outfit), and welcomed into my closet all things that shimmer and shine.

The most gregarious time of year should be filled with pretty dresses, sparkling shoes, radiating jewels, and rosy lips--regardless of what size dress one wears. So larger ladies I implore: step away from black and bring some shine into your wardrobe. It will set your style free, illuminating your holiday attire.

The Look: I adore Adrianna Papell's beaded dress: it's flapper inspiration with modern simplicity (perfect for all sorts of occasions). The Badgley Mischka pump is a holiday must (a neutral metallic) with a sparkling heel that will turn heads throughout the season and well into the New Year. The Miguel Ases earrings and Kotur clutch provide a pop of red and rose (and will work well in all seasons), which will be further enhanced by a Fresh rose tinted lip (always a "fresh" look that won't, most importantly, leave red lips on the numerous cheeks you greet).
